MDE specializes in drilling for environmental, geotechnical, geothermal, aggregates and construction, clean water, and mining applications. MDE’s services include roto-sonic drilling services, earth and hard rock core drilling, discrete water sampling and packer testing, soil probing, geotechnical testing and sampling, instrumentation installations, ground source heat loop installations, monitoring well construction, piezometer installations, remediation well construction, and well abandonment services. Its mining services include surface and underground core sampling, and remote exploration drilling services. The company’s drilling services for the energy sector are comprised of ground-source geothermal heat loop installations and oil sands exploration services.
Our fleet of specialized equipment includes limited access, track-mounted and truck-mounted roto-sonic drills, air/mud rotary drills, hollow-stem auger drills and direct push rigs. Our staff has considerable project management experience assisting in environmental, geotechnical, hydrogeological, and soils/hard rock coring investigations for major commercial and industrial clients in the USA.
MDE started in the environmental drilling sector with the purchase of SMD Services of Huntsville, Alabama in March 2010. SMD Services was founded in May 2009 by two highly experienced executives with over 35 years experience in the drilling industry. While being a start-up venture, SMD provided an excellent platform for growth in the environmental and geotechnical drilling industry for Major Drilling. MDE currently has four office locations in Salt Lake City, UT; Little Falls, MN; Huntsville, AL; and Portland, OR.
