David B. Tennant, Director, Chairman of the Board

Mr. Tennant is a senior partner and former co-head of the national business law group at McCarthy Tétrault, LLP, Canada's largest law firm, and is legal counsel from time to time to the Corporation. Mr. Tennant is a former lecturer at Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto.

Francis P. McGuire, Director, President & Chief Executive Officer

Prior to joining Major Drilling, Francis served as Vice President, Business Development of MITI Information Technology Inc. from 1998 to August 2000, identified by Profit magazine in 1999 as the fastest growing company in Atlantic Canada. Mr. McGuire has also served as Deputy Minister of the Department of Economic Development and Tourism of New Brunswick. Mr. McGuire holds a Masters of Arts in International Studies, Trade and Economics from Johns Hopkins University, a diploma in European Politics from the Institut d'Etudes Politiques in Paris and a Bachelor of Arts from Dalhousie University.


Edward Breiner, Director

Mr. Breiner is President and CEO of Schramm, Inc., a manufacturer of mobile tophead rotary drill rigs, located in West Chester, Pennsylvania, USA. He has over 25 years of experience in manufacturing, marketing and sales of drill rigs and construction equipment. Prior to joining Schramm in 2000, Mr. Breiner held several positions with Ingersoll-Rand Company in New Jersey, Texas and Pennsylvania culminating in his role as Vice-President & Branch Manager of Ingersoll Rand Equipment Sales located in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. In addition to his role on the Schramm board, Mr. Breiner serves as a director on the board of the American Ground Water Trust, a non-profit organization which provides public education concerning the hydrologic, economic and environmental significance of ground water. Mr. Breiner holds a Bachelor of Science from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania and a Masters of Business Administration form the University of Dallas, Texas. Additionally, he is Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) awarded by APICS, the Association of Operations Management.

David A. Fennell, Director

After graduating from the University of North Dakota in 1974, Mr. Fennell combined a career as a professional football player with a career in law. He graduated from the University of Alberta in 1978 and was called to the bar in 1979. He practiced law primarily in the natural resources area until 1984 when he founded exploration company Golden Star Resources Ltd. In 1998, Mr. Fennell left Golden Star to become Chairman and CEO of Cambiex Explorations Ltd, which became Hope Bay Gold Corporation. He held this position until the merger of Hope Bay and Miramar where he continued as Executive Vice-Chairman and Director for the combined entity until 2007. He is currently a director and Chairman of the Board of Reunion Gold Corporation.

Jean Desrosiers, Director
 
Mr. Desrosiers has been Vice President – Mining Operations for Xstrata Zinc Canada responsible for mining operations and exploration since the acquisition by Xstrata Plc. of Falconbridge Ltd in 2006. Prior to that, Mr. Desrosiers was Vice President Zinc for Falconbridge and Noranda responsible for Zinc mining operations since 1998.  Mr. Desrosiers graduated as a mining engineer in 1971 from Ecole Polytechnique in Montréal and has over 35 years experience in the mining business.  He is also chairman of the Board of Directors of COREM, a research consortium in mineral processing based in Quebec City.

David Hope, Director

Mr. Hope retired in 2001 from Grant Thornton LLP where he was Executive Partner and CEO. He continued as the CEO of Grant Thornton Canada and a director of Grant Thornton International through 2002. He was named vice-chair of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants in 2002 and began a two-year term as CICA chair in 2004, where he also previously chaired the Corporate Governance and Nominating Committee (2002-2004). He has been active in the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nova Scotia, serving on the governing council (1968-1975) and various committees, and as president (1974-1975). Mr. Hope qualified as a CA in Nova Scotia in 1963 and graduated with an M.B.A. from Harvard University in 1968.

John H. Schiavi, Director

Mr. Schiavi obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Babson College in 1961 and a Masters degree in Business Administration from New York University in 1962. He is President of Schiavi Enterprises, a diversified real estate holding company based in Oxford, Maine. Mr. Schiavi is also a director of  Consumers Water Co., an investor owned water utility operating in seven states, and Northeast Bancorp of Maine.

Mr. Zurel is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Dalhousie University. From 1998 to 2006 Mr. Zurel was Senior Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer of CHC Helicopter Corporation, helping to build it into the largest helicopter company in the world. Mr. Zurel is currently President of Stonebridge Capital and a partner with Wave Venture Partners, both of which focus on providing venture capital to start-up and high-growth companies. He is a director of Fronteer Development Group, as well as a board member of several private companies and charities.
