In recent years, a lot has been said about the importance of helping women feel welcome, challenge their skills and find opportunities in mining—a historically male-dominated field. Major Drilling puts words into action and is proud to share stories about outstanding Major Drilling Women in Mining who are advancing the industry.

Their stories are shared as the world marks International Women’s Day 2021, a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. It is one of the most important days of the year to celebrate women’s success and raise awareness about women’s equality.

Major Drilling uses its global fleet of over 600 drills as tools for its more than 3,000 employees on five continents who are experts in their field. This workforce includes an increasing number of women.

“We’re proud to share the accomplishments of these exceptional women at Major Drilling who are making great contributions to our company and to the drilling industry,” Ben Graham, Major Drilling VP Human Resources and Safety, said.

In their own corners of the world, Christine Mae Coquilla and Shima Jagernath are making their mark in the drilling sector. They signify Major Drilling’s commitment to workplace diversity as not only part its environmental, social and governance initiatives, but also the company’s commitment to finding the best employees who deliver on the quality, safety and results that clients expect.

Each woman is expert in her field and has developed skills that support and enhance her branch. For example, Coquilla works each day to carry out Major Drilling’s safety programs and commitments in the Philippines including the TAKE 5 risk assessment, the 10 Lifesaving Rules and the Critical Risks Management programs. Jagernath uses her skills in human resources to administrate a workforce in Suriname that is always on the move.

Major Drilling’s commitment to workplace diversity can also be seen in features such as previous stories of Major Drilling Women in Mining and award-winning hiring practices in Mongolia, among others. The many faces at Major Drilling increasingly belong to women.

“Rightfully so,” Graham said. “Our company, the industry and world need and will increasingly rely on the incomparable contributions of women who represent half of the potential global workforce.”
